Day 43
Distance travelled: 74.9 miles
Time in saddle: 7hrs 9 mins
Overall distance travelled: 3758 miles
Struggled to get out of bed this morning. As my son Daniel would say “ I need to get my shot sorted” I will do tonight and star afresh tomorrow. I am in a hotel, not very luxurious; the lights just went out when I plugged my computer into the main…scary. I had to go to reception so that they could reset the whole floor lighting system. Sorry if you are staying on this floor. I am sat on the loo. Not using it. It is the only mains socket that seems to work. Feels quite comfortable really, shame I can’t poo…. doesn’t seem to be happening lately. Sorry to discuss toilet issues but you wanted to know everything.
I seem to have travelled many miles today without getting anywhere if you know what I mean. It will probably be better tomorrow as I am going along the coast road…I will believe it when I see it.
I actually had a dog chase me today, the first in Spain. It was only a small terrier and I am sure it’s bark sounded like rough-io woof-io…..I could be getting more sun than I need but it sounded funny. I think it was surprised when I laughed at it and it stopped chasing me…. probably embarrassed….I do that to people and dogs apparently.
I received a couple of phone calls today, one from my son, Thomas. It was great to hear from him….I love you Thomas.
I feel like Paul Newman in ‘Cool Hand Luke’ when he’s set a challenge to eat eggs. He says that he will eat 53….his mate said” why 53, why not 20?” Paul Newman says “it felt like a good idea at the time” That’s what I feel about Spain….why not just do America?
Any how I am here now and the only way I am going to get home is to pedal so I’d better stop moaning and get on with it.
My gear cable has snapped, which is unfortunate. I’ve managed to sort things out a bit and I’m still managing to use my middle gears. I have to change manually every so often, which is a pain but hey. Gusher is injured but not down and that’s how I feel. We will come through together no matter what.
Can’t wait to see everyone at home and when I get to Southampton I am going to kiss English soil…I can’t wait.
I'm in a McDonalds...the only place that has the Internet...eating shit for the cause.
Dearest Wayne,
ReplyDeleteMe again...You know the nice thing about being in America right now is that I get to see your late night blogs first..... because..... All your good people in the UK are sleeping (as they should be) dreaming of sugarplums and the sort.
It is so nice to see you laughing! :):):):):) Makes us smile too.
GOOD NEWS... Some of my facebook friends are following your blog. We are hooked on the "RIDE" Tune in tomorrow night, same place same time.
We just love ya Wayne.
Ok...this is a secret so don't tell anyone. Alright? Tell your twin brother to pretend that he is you, back in the UK ... then, you get back on the plane (you dont have to bike back through France and Spain, ok...that is the good news).....then come back to America.
Sounds easy enough. (NO I haven't had any wine).
I'm going to run out of space...
Seriously now, you are doing a great job!!!
Another day well done.
Oh, if you keep eating that McDonalds food you will take care of that poo problem really fast...

ReplyDeleteWe so wish Spain was more hospitable and yes we know how hot it is and thats without having to pedal! It will get cooler with every night, with every day of pedals - heck, wish we could do a day for you...on a motorbike.
You are incredible, almost 80 miles a day and heat nearing 40 degrees and no flat bits...yes just think how it will be when you cross on that ferry - but do try to enjoy Spain a little - treat yourself and cut a few corners off that coast line...
Now addicted to the blog!
Lots of love
Sue, Jeff, Joe, Dan and Maddie
Keep ploding Wanyne hopefully it will get better soon. Great camera work, if a little spooky. Your progress is amazing ... don't beat yourself up.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a dog that would chase anyone on a bike ... I had to take it off him in the end!
P.s. What route are you taking through England?
ReplyDeleteI'm going North from Southampton. Probably through Oxford but I'm not sure yet.....not planned anything up to now...why change.hehe
ReplyDeleteHey Wayne'io, keep going matey, we're all still completely behind you all the way. Great to see the Bloggs back up.
ReplyDeleteKeep peddling Wayne, and just think home is getting nearer and nearer,
