Last night I got chatting to a family from Aberdeen in Scotland, they were really nice and wished me the best of luck. I filmed a programme about tattooing in Aberdeen....interesting place, smells of fish.
I woke up with a really bad sore throat this morning. In fact it woke me up in the night, I couldn't swallow. I hope I am not coming down with something. If I have to sweat it out...I'm in the right place doing the right thing. I suspect that it has something to do with the air conditioning. I prefer to just sleep with the window open.
It has been a day of two halves today. This morning I wanted to get my cycle gears fixed so I waited until ten o'clock, that's when the cycle shop opened, once I'd found it.....half past ten and it still wasn't open. I decided to cycle on and make do. I stopped at a garage and asked them to help but they couldn't....or wouldn't....whatever, time to get going. It was much too late for me...I needed to get the miles in. The first couple of hours were hard. There were plenty of hills and the heat was on, so to speak. I had to go inland for a while and the temperature was impressive...if you are a vase in a kiln....me I was hot....that's not usually said about me...in fact never has been...but I digress. The second half of the day was fantastic. The ocean breeze kept it from feeling like the inside of an oven and the road was pretty flat....there is a God. I had my first puncture since America...I was sort of missing them really. I fixed it pretty quick and was on my way.
I passed some more prostitutes, who all look fantastic...it's like 'Pretty Woman' but no I am not tempted....in an olive grove...come on....where would I park my bike.....now now.
I eventually arrived at Valencia, which I wasn't expecting because of the late start. It's a massive city. I love the Spanish Cities....much better than New York. The atmosphere is brilliant. Everywhere is buzzing. People, young and old just walk about chatting and drinking in road side cafe's. I remember my mum talking about walking down Chester Road in warrington as a young girl as a way of meeting people...that's what it is like here. I will definitely visit Valencia again. I have a system for getting information...ask as many people as I can. It gets results. I am in a hotel that is very nice, and not too dear. I asked a young guy if he knew any cheap hotels. Bless him he cycled along with me and took me to some 'really expensive four star' hotels....cheapio probably sounds like expensivio in my Spanish....but I sorted it.
I spoke to a few people today, which was great. I spoke to my special friend, which was the highlight of my day.....good to hear from them.
As I was writing my blog I got a phone call from one of my best friends Ste Kemp....we howled laughing...about nothing in particular...that's what good friends are about and once I get back I am going to let them know how much they mean to me.....I suppose we all say that don't we....but it's true.....being British we just don't say it.
Things must be looking up if you are missing getting punctures! Whatever happened to 'Bicycle Repair Man'?
ReplyDeleteHere's one for those 'ladies of the roadside' curtesy of Babel Fish,
