My hostel last night was really good but it had the smallest bath I have ever seen. You could have had nicky nacky noo (Where did that come from) in it but you would have had to have been on your own....what's unusual about that? It did have a bidet but I always make do with a handstand in the shower....keeps me fit and clean
I’ve had a bit of a lazy day really. I’ve done nearly eighty miles but I could have done much more, to be honest I wasn’t really in the mood….some days you are and some you are not, that’s what makes it interesting I suppose. It was cloudy when I started out, which is great for me. It meant that the sun wasn’t beating the shit out of me, which makes a change.
The roads were pretty flat, there were a couple of little hills, enough to make it interesting but it was pretty easy going all day. I did have to ask for directions a few times….I love that. It is really easy to go onto the motorville, which I am not supposed to. You know what they say “he who dares….usually doesn’t get caught out” which I didn’t….. I went on a few times..sod it.
I stopped in a place called L’Ampolis for breaklfast, which was great. I love the Spanish towns….not the commercial ones, the real Spanish towns…they are really interesting. ….and usually very reasonable when it comes to food.
I went on to a place called L’Hospital de Infant…weird names I know. The guy in the café had studied in England for two years and it was good to have a chat. He seemed really interested in what I was doing and was very helpful with directions.
I eventually arrived at Tarragona, a busy large town, which doesn’t really appeal to me. As I cycled into the centre I asked a guy if he spoke English….he was from Scarborough…how weird is that. I’d been on the phone to my friend from Scarborough just fifteen minutes before…weird.
His name was James and I nearly kissed him. It was great to hear an English voice and he gave me some great directions…..one of which led straight to a Hostel, which was cheap and right in the centre…..brilliant, cheers James. It’s funny I did the American thing by saying I have friends in Scarborough…..do you know them?....how many people are in Scarborough?
I’ve had a few people mentioning the fact that I have lost a lot of weight….I am cycling a lot of miles a day in blistering heat…it probably looks easy but believe me it’s not…..what do you expect? I am eating like a horse…but I can’t get hay from anywhere, hehe. Please don’t worry. I feel fitter that I have done in years and I could cycle forever…..admit it I was a fat bastard before. I was the right weight for my height…I just should have been seven foot five inches.
Seriously please don’t worry I am fine and loving every minute of it…even the shit days when I feel like crying.
I’ve not filmed today… I ran out of tape. I am getting some more later. It probably won’t do any harm not filming for a day….it’s probably a little boring anyway.
I’m on my way home, I’m fit and confident that I will get there on time and the best people in the world are going to be waiting for me…it doesn’t get better than that….even in your dreams.
Tape? isn't that like, really old? ... I guess you're in the business, you should know. I had noticed that your shirts were looking a bit lose lately, I am jealous. I cycle in a week roughly what you are doing in a day and I haven't enjoyed the same fringe benefits. My dad started cycling in his 60s, ten miles a day every day ... we havn't got a clue where he is now!
ReplyDeleteMade a change to see you drinking coffee instead of lager - what's happening to you, or is that just for your media image? Great to speak to you the other day - you should be on track for getting into France for Saturday/Sunday - do you need ferry times checking? I'll ring you with that anyway - here's to Spain and keeping going.
